First Page Tips

1. Nothing should be explained
2. Characters react--don't report
3. Focus on Characters over setting
4. Don't bury key dialog or narrative
5. Minimize description
6. Prioritize what info the reader must have
7. Mind that action is authentic
8. White space is inviting; long blocks of narrative daunting.

I came across these in thebookshelfmuse.blogspot

I'm thinking, depending upon the genre, these are good tips for a lot more than the first page.
